Getting To Detroit
With one of the world’s busiest airports, Detroit offers nonstop flights to 150 destinations in the world, and is a major hub for Delta Airlines. DTW was named the best large U.S. airport in customer satisfaction by J.D. Power & Associates in 2010, 2019, 2022 and 2023.
DAX is a new airport shuttle offering 16 daily round-trips from downtown Detroit to DTW. The shuttle runs every day from 3:30am to 11pm. Tickets are $8 at the door and $6 for reservations.
And when talking about what’s happening once on the ground, the area — we are called the Motor City, is known for having one of the most efficient road systems around which is important as 39.1% of current National FOP Members live within a 6-hour drive to Detroit.
Detroit Hotels
Detroit has about 5,500 hotel rooms, with over 1,500 hotel rooms either in construction or about to break ground including a 600-room riverfront JW Marriott is under construction in downtown Detroit.
The project's developer confirmed that the JW Marriott luxury brand will open in the new 25-story hotel building that is going up next door to the Huntington Place convention center, near the former site of Joe Louis Arena. The JW Marriott would be the second largest hotel in Detroit by room count, behind the 1,328-room Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center.
The hotel is expected to open in time to host guests for the NCAA men's Final Four basketball tournament that will be in Detroit in March 2027.
Huntington Place
Huntington Place is the 16th largest convention center in the United States. Built by the City of Detroit, it was originally opened in 1960 and named Cobo Hall in honor of former Detroit Mayor Albert E. Cobo (1950-1957).
In 2015 after a $279 million renovation, Huntington Place features 723,000 square feet of exhibit hall space and 623,000 square feet of contiguous exhibit space.
In 2019, venue naming rights were awarded to TCF Bank, and in 2021 TCF Bank merged with Huntington Bank. Today, Huntington Place hosts conferences, conventions and tradeshows bringing one million visitors a year from across the globe to Detroit.
